I like stubble long and full beard best, both of which I've had. Funny that a Van Dyke was worn by Van Amburgh 😆

I googled The Thing just to see Kurt Russell's beard you mentioned, which led me into a rabbit hole reading about John Carpenter's version, its' prequel, the '50s version, and the original story it was based on. Fascinating stuff, I'll have to watch it some time.

I can second the motion that you moisturize your beard while it's growing out. I know some might think it's not important, and maybe different people react differently, but speaking for myself here's why:
It isn't normal to shave. It isn't normal to grow a beard from scratch as a full grown man. For some, when the beard is still short, like in the 1 to 3 week range, the small hard hairs can reach back and poke your skin causing inflammation or sometimes even infection. This can persist even after the beard is of good length and be uncomfortable or painful. That's why it's good to keep the hair soft while it's in that crucial scruff-to-real-beard stage. Then you should be good to go with normal upkeep/grooming.
Happy bearding!

Sexist article about construction
by neat blue dog inhttps://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/activities/construction/women-in-construction/.
it's all about women being trained to operate heavy equipment, like it's a miracle.
they quote the male foreman, but don't tell you that only men are allowed to be foreman.

On the flip side of the sexism coin, it's said multiple times that women are safer and more thorough, and are often preferred for the job.

How were you 'outed' ??
by stuckinarut2 inmany of us here have been "outed" as ones who no longer believe that this is "the truth".. many didn't have the chance to do it in our own way, and in our own time, but rather someone "found out about our apostasy" and "reported" it to the spiritual police (elders).
would you like to share your stories?.

This was about four years ago. I had talked to several people in my congregation at different times and mentioned various things like the Pyramid of Giza, Russell's pyramid monument, 1925, Beth Sarim, 1975, etc. However, I STILL believed it was the truth at the time and so after talking about it I tried to down play these things and make various lame excuses. Anyway, it wasn't long before the Elders called me to a meeting, and didn't tell me what it was about. The very first things they asked me were all about my loyalty to the organization, and of course since I still believed I answered affirmatively. Then they got into counciling me, saying that loyalty is important and that since we don't air our family's "dirty laundry" it also isn't right to air the organization's "dirty laundry". They told me it would be best not to mention such things again, and being obedient to "Theocratic Order" as I was, I complied. I lost no privileges. Funny thing is I just realized I had a full beard at the time. (I had an excuse as I had been away for a few weeks and no assignments that day.) I didn't realize what a fine line I was walking. 😆 Anyways, it would be another couple years til I fully woke up, and if that scenario happened now I honestly don't know how it would end. I think outing myself through my own words is a very real possibility hanging over my head, could be today, could be years from now, could be never. Since then I have continued to push the envelope with regard to thought-inducing content I insert into comments, talks and conversation. Haven't been counciled yet, but we'll see.

Alicia I know what you mean 😄 For me the actual nail in the coffin was reading the new testament front to back in a couple months without WT literature, and finally seeing how mainstream Christendom really does have the basic stuff right (not that I adhere to any, I think they're ALL a racket), but it was CoC that directly preceded this and was the catalyst for my awakening. It has such powerful, relatable stuff in there because it's REAL, the ring of truth if you will. (Sorry I just puked in my mouth a little saying that phrase 😜😆)
